Martin's Walking Guides

As well as designing circular walks I have also designed some linear walks and rather than simply place them on my website I have decided to publish guides to these walks. My first one is a walk from the source of the River Windrush to its confluence with the River Thames.

There are, of course, any number of guides to walking in the Cotswolds, but I have yet to find one that covers a walk along the length of the River Windrush. So, I put pen to paper, so to speak, and wrote this guide .

I thoroughly enjoyed not only walking the Windrush, but also recording it for others to follow. As well as taking the walker through places they may already know, I hope the guide will be a catalyst for walkers to venture further afield and off the well beaten track to explore the lesser-known parts of our countryside.

At some 40 miles in length, the River Windrush is the longest of the Cotswolds tributaries of the River Thames. Its source is in the heart of the Gloucestershire Cotswolds and its confluence in the flatlands of the Oxfordshire Thames basin.

During its journey the Windrush flows through beautiful rolling landscapes and quintessentially English villages and towns with delightful names such as Temple Guiting, Temple Power, Great Rissington and Bourton-on-the-Water.

In this guide, Martin Marais provides walkers the chance to walk the entire length of the river along a 48-mile route which he designed for his own enjoyment. Starting at the source of the River Windrush, near the hamlet of Taddington, the walk continues through the heart of the Cotswolds, through remote peaceful countryside and bustling Cotswolds towns and finally onto its confluence with the Thames at Newbridge where well-earned refreshments can be had from a choice of two hostelries.

This guide contains a wealth of useful maps, information, historical facts and glorious photographs and will be a valuable companion to anyone walking the Windrush Meander.

I would be delighted to hear any experiences that you may have during your walk. Please get in touch, by posting comments on my Facebook page @CotwoldsWalks

Finally, if you do buy a copy of the guide, I would be very grateful if you could leave a review of it at the place where you purchased it. This is not only because reviews are important to authors, but because the style and content of the guide is the result of reading reviews of other walking guides. Therefore, your feedback will help make future editions of this guide both more interesting and more useful to other walkers.

My guide to walking the River Windrush from its source to the River Thames

is available as a

paperback, for Kindles or an epub  ebook.
