Plot synopsis: It’s 1720 and Abigail Clear, daughter of a notorious pirate captain, is taken prisoner by a rival crew. Now she must contend with its formidable captain, James Morrow, who is displeased to discover his captive is a young lass, who will earn him no bounty. Yet might he be able to get her to switch her loyalties to him and reveal the whereabouts of her infamous father and his stolen treasure?
I love the cover. It is what drew me into wanting to read the novel.
There were many aspects of this novel that I liked. The narrative trips along at a good pace and the characterisation and setting are well described. I also liked the characters involved. But the plot and story line did not seem to have any real direction. It was not the gusty, pirate story I was expecting from the cover – I did not have the benefit of the category descriptions I subsequently saw on Amazon which described it as historical romance. It is well written and does deserve 3*. For me a stronger plot was needed to give it a higher rating, but those who enjoy love stories might give it more (as many of them have).
What do others think?
At the time of writing there were no reviews on Amazon.co.uk. There were 15 reviews on Amazon.com, all were of 4* or 5*. There were 22 rating on Goodreads.com, of which 20 were 4 and 5* the remaining two were 1 and 2*.
It appears that if you like this type of novel, it would be one you are likely to enjoy.
