Plot synopsis: During the American Civil War, Jeff Savage and John Carver meet in a bloody little battle in the Shenandoah Valley, a valley through which Carver and his raiders have been blasting a bloody path. Two years later Carver leads his gang into Summerton, Texas, and a bloodbath ensues which sets in motion a chain of events that causeJeff Savage to determine that he must finish what he started during the war. The only outcome, for Savage, can be the death of John Carver and his gang of ruthless murderers.

Yep, the cover tells it as it is.

If you like your Westerns raw, then this is a book for you. Henry’s style is minimalist and no-nonsense. The characters are hard and they are “drawn” that way. Their introductions are explicit and done with the minimum of fuss. This is not a story that waxes lyrical about wide open spaces, or the subtleties of the townscapes, or the tender details of a woman’s face – the descriptions are brief and in your face. The dialogue is there to carry the story, not to build the characters. This is a classic revenge Western stripped to the essentials. And while the ending may be predictable and the scenario told many times before, the story nevertheless makes for compelling reading, ably aided by Henry’s clipped style and the additional little twists and turns he gives to the narrative. It is definitely worth a read.
