Plot Summary: As far as the folk of Lamarr County are concerned, Chick Lowe is a dangerous outlaw, having killed an honest man in cold blood. However, while riding through the county he rescues Kate Lane, the only survivor of a coach attack by the vicious Tamp Barons Gang. Lowe divulges to her that he is actually an under-cover lawman sent to capture Tamp Barons and his gang. Although Kate promises not to give away his identity, luck is just not on his side and he suffers set back after set back in his attempts to uphold the law. The question is, will he finally put an end to the terrorizing gang and save the girl they have threatened to kill, or will his luck simply run out?

I will admit to finding the style of this book a bit bland. I found the characterisation a bit two dimensional and there was no real depth to the settings. Fortunately the dialogue was reasonably good and did help to fill in the characters out, although it was sometimes over-used to expound the narrative. There was also a large amount of internal dialogue, which tended to be rather repetitive. Having said that, the plot was very dynamic and full of twists and I was often left wondering how on earth the main protagonist was going to get out of the fixes he found himself in. The plot saved the novel and would encourage me to read other works by this author.
