Title: Mythos

Author: Stephen Fry Twitter: Stephen Fry Webpage: Stephen Fry Narrator: Stephen Fry Publisher: Penguin Books Website: Penguin Books ASIN: B0718X6ZZ2 Genre: Greek Mythology Listening Length: 15h:?m

Synopsis: From the birth of the universe to the creation of humankind, Stephen Fry retells the myths for our tragic, comic, fateful age. Witness Athena born from the cracking open of Zeus' head and follow Persephone down into the dark realm of Hades. Experience the terrible and endless fate of Prometheus after his betrayal of Zeus and shiver as Pandora opens her jar of evil torments. The Greek gods are the best and worst of us, and in Stephen Fry's hands they tell us who we are.

What a great storyteller Steven Fry is. This is obviously a very well researched piece of work. The stories are beguiling and wonderfully told. The characters of the gods, with all their failings and human weaknesses are well developed and the gods are portrayed as fallible and as emotionally challenged as we mortals. It you know nothing about the Greek myths this has to be one of the best introductions to the subject. Even if you believe you have no interest in Greek mythology I would recommend this book to you the characters may be fantastical, but the stories are full of intrigue, love, passion and jealousy. The only criticism I might have is that the narrative curve becomes somewhat dislocated at the end of the book when Fry feels the need to add a number of story lines that do not fall easily into the general flow of the story, but this is a minor point and the stories continue to be entertaining. The whole thing is wonderfully brought together by Fry’s wonderful narration.
